This past Sunday our Pastor shared a song with our congregation called Oceans written by the band Hillsong. Read the following for an in depth outlook on the lyrics of the song uwdcbtr.
“And there I find You in the mystery, In oceans deep-My faith will stand”
Walking with God is nothing easy. It is for the courageous in heart. It is for those who have decided that Christ’s promises, revealed to us through His Word, are worth every deep ocean we must cross.
We must begin to see these hypothetical oceans as the embodiment of Christ’s life itself – the ever-present presence of our heavenly Father. In His presence we find all we need for the journey. Through all the challenges, hurts, disillusionment, and losses we can fulfill our purpose which is to reveal Christ in us to others. We must remember that we were not placed on this earth to merely survive the seasons of life, but instead we were placed here so that each trial we face can further us into the presence of God. Spending time in His presence transforms our character and prepares us for that one day where we will join Him for eternity. “My soul will rest in Your embrace, For I am Yours and You are mine.”
In John 6:29 Jesus says, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” In the midst of the “oceans” of life we feel the need to either do something, stay afloat, or at minimum alive. But Christ simply instructs us to believe and to stand on what we know Christ to be! “In oceans deep my faith will stand”
“I write to you fathers, (leaders, mature men, disciples) because you have known Him who is from the beginning,” 1 John 2:13. We will not find satisfaction in life until we rest in Him and in who He is. We were not created to work out our eternal salvation nor withstand through earthy challenges in our own strength. It is Christ in us who will overcome. We must hold on to the basic things we learned when we came to Christ. We came just as we were, filled with sin and baggage. Without our help, He in return exchanged our darkness for His light. Knowing this, we can continue in that same dependency confident that he will make a way through the “mystery” for us.
Let’s recall and examine all the things we know Christ to be:
“You call me out upon the waters” – Hebrews 13:20, “Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
“Your grace abounds in deepest waters” – Hebrews 4:16, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
“Your sovereign hand Will be my guide” – Psalms 121:3, “I will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber.”
“You’ve never failed and You won’t start now” – Psalms 29:10, “The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood, And the Lord sits as King forever.”
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders”
The Bible is full of Gods promises. His promises are equal to His presence. Knowing what he has promised us allows us to stay anchored because we know that He is present and will carry us through our struggles.
So as we find ourselves in these oceans, whether it be a moment of still waters or raging waves, we must maintain ourselves in His Word and continue with a heavenly perspective. Christ is faithful and we must not worry about any wave overtaking us.
“(that you may be)…strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, for all patience and long-suffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.” Colossians 1:11
